Lets start here.......

I wasn’t planning on writing anything like this, to be honest.

Never really saw myself as someone with a Substack. Sounds a bit to organised for me. And if you’ve followed anything I’ve done over the years, you’ll know that’s not really been the approach. But here we are.

I’ve spent most of my life making music, some of it landed, some of it didn’t, some of it people still shout back at you twenty-odd years later whether you expect it or not. That’s a strange thing, by the way. You write something in your twenties and it follows you round like a shadow.

I’m not ungrateful for it. Far from it, but I’m not interested in living inside it either. That’s probably the reason for this, if I’m being straight about it.

There’s a lot of talk about the 90s at the minute. Documentaries, throwbacks, people trying to pin it all down like it was one neat little story. It wasn’t., it was messy and it was strange, and half the time we didn’t know what we were doing, we were just getting on with it.

Some of it got turned into something bigger than it was. Some of it got flattened into nostalgia. And that’s the bit I’ve never really had much time for.

I’m not trying to revisit anything. I’m more interested in what happens after all that. What stays with you, what changes, what sharpens a bit with age instead of softening off.

That’s where Firehead came from, really.

Not as a big statement or a comeback. Just a natural next step. different energy, with less messing about and far more direct.

Some of the old songs feel different now as well. You play them and they’ve got a bit more weight to them. Or maybe you have.

Hard to say which.

Anyway, this isn’t going to be a “here’s what I’m up to” type thing every week. I’ll write when there’s something worth saying.

Could be about music, Could be about how things have changed. Could be about things that have got nothing to do with either of those, to be honest.

I’ve never been that interested in sticking to one lane and If you’ve read this far, you probably aren’t either.
